HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
Retired Major David Brake graduated from Northern Nash High School in 1986. He later joined the United States Marine Corps in 1987 and attended Basic training in Paris Island, South Carolina. Retired Major Brake was stationed in San Diego California for an Infantry training school. He was later stationed in Subic Bay the Republic of the Philippines where he was assigned to Security Forces, maintaining security details for entry and exit points to the Subic Navy Base. Retired Major Brake also participated in Jungle Patrol providing security for the military base.
He excelled in these duties and later served as Corporal of the guard, supervising several marines responsible for the security of the military base. He returned to the United States in 1989 and was stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he received additional overseas orders. Prior to completion of his enlistment, he participated in two combat campaigns, Operation Just Cause (The Invasion of Panama) in 1989 and Operation Desert Shield/ Desert Storm (the liberation of Kuwait) 1990 – 1991.
